Manchester United close in on Morata
After weeks of speculation, Manchester United’s move for Alvaro Morata is close to completion. This is according to AS, the Madrid-based newspaper, who are usually a very good source for Real Madrid news.
Morata has been linked with Manchester United for much of the summer window and will be a direct replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The movement in the Morata deal appears to be centred around the fact the Spanish striker is set to complete his honeymoon after getting married to long-term girlfriend Alice Campello.
Real Madrid & Manchester United negotiating the fee
AS reveal that Real Madrid and Manchester United are negotiating the fee for Morata.Manchester United have offered 70 million euros, but they are holding out for around 80-90 million.
Real Madrid believe Morata to be worth this kind of fee since he is just 24 and there are very few front line strikers in the market right now.
Morata keen to leave for Old Trafford
Crucially, Morata is keen to leave Real Madrid for Manchester United and has been in contact with Jose Mourinho for much of the summer. As was detailed a few weeks ago, Morata sees his opportunities limited at Real Madrid by the BBC (Bale, Benzema and Cristiano) and this could get worse if Kylian Mbappe signs as well.
Morata would join up with a host of Spaniards already at Manchester United, including goalkeeper David De Gea, plus midfielders Ander Herrera and Juan Mata.
The Spain striker only returned from Juventus last summer but produced a fine season despite failing to grab a spot in Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid first team.
In 26 La Liga appearances, Alvaro Morata scored 15 goals for Real Madrid.
